Kidnapped Son Of Pantami Regains Freedom
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ali Ibrahim Isa Pantami

A civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has accused the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Sheikh Ali Ibrahim Isa Pantami of choosing to apply diversionary tactics instead of clearly telling Nigerians whether he actually expressed extremist views and endorsement of activities of masterminds of AlQaeda or not.

The rights group said if indeed the minister was the owner of the voice in audio messages supporting AlQaeda,  then he should resign forthwith or be dismissed or Nigerians should mount pressure on the United States of America to arrest him.

It said it was disingenuous and totally unhelpful for the embattled minister to blame some imaginary enemies for the controversy that has arisen by the revelations in some sections of the media that in the past during his teachings as an Islamic cleric that he Sheikh Pantami expressed positions which directly supported the activities of individuals the government of the United States of America and the United Nations have designated as global Jihadists leaders who are the masterminds of some of the worst bombings that  targeted civilians in the United States of America and many parts of the world.

HURIWA recalled that most of these international terrorists have been similarly killed in several bombing campaigns by the United States of America.

“As a very educated person,  we in the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) are asking the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Sheikh Isa Pantami to confirm or deny whether he is the owner of the voice heard in a lot of audio messages in Hausa language that clearly professes support for what the Saudi-born terrorist masterminds of AlQaeda have embraced which is to attack the interests of the United States of America and all those who are not adherents of their brand of Islam. In simple language, we are asking Pantami if he supports AlQaeda or not.”

HURIWA also condems the approach being adopted by the minister in seeking to shift attention from the massive revelations of his past activities by seeking to blame those who are opposed to the National Identification Number (NIN).

“It is bizarre, so disgusting and disingenuous for this public office holder to choose to use fallacy to divert attention away from a very serious allegations against him that he had delivered public speeches that gave unqualified support for AlQaeda.

“If indeed this is true, the minister should resign forthwith. Telling us that you have Christians working for you or that persons opposed to NIN are after you is illogical, laughable and amounts to cheap propaganda that does not hold water. The minister should address the issues squarely and stop the diversionary tactics”, the group said.

HURIWA recalled that Pantami had explained that forces against the Federal Government policy of compulsory NIN registration  for all Nigerians and those residing in the country were behind the attacks against him.

Olaopa Seeks Support For Education At Fundraising For Olivet Baptist High School

Published

on

Prof. Tunji Olaopa

The Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, has urged support for education as government alone cannot meet the challenges of the sector.

Olaopa made the appeal in Abuja on Thursday in an address as the Chairman of the 80th Fundraising Dinner for the Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.

While noting that the school was in need of support for development, he acknowledged that the entire educational sector in the country was faced with the same fate.

He said: “To have been established in 1945 and to still retain some measure of its old glory, given what the lamentable fate of public schools in Nigeria, is no mean feat. In another breath, that the generations of we old students, that are here today, are alive to witness this momentous celebration of a school that has so greatly impacted our formative years and all we have become in life calls for reflection. A reflection on the clear fact that if Olivet had impacted us so profoundly, is it not evident that the school now needs us to give back to it, in measure that will impact at this its trying time, in a manner of speaking? And Olivet is not alone in this challenged state, as restoring the glory of the old famous schools nationwide including the more recent, the Unity Schools of FG Colleges and states’ model schools is now the concern of all stakeholders and policy makers. ”

According to Olaopa, public schools and indeed public education institutions are not just challenged, “they are failing on every education achievement parameter: content/curriculum and pedagogy; infrastructure/technology for learning and for school administration; funding and sustainability; quality assurance; teacher professionalism and teacher education; certification, relevance and employability. Indeed, a huge chunk of teachers in these schools are provided and sustained by PTAs, and government is making effort to formalise the recruitment of those who are qualified by government standard within the limit of availability.

” It is unhelpful to therefore keep heaping blame on governments. What the times and tides require is for all hands to be on deck, even as the need for policy innovation and creativity on the side of government cannot be overemphasized.”

While commending the Dr. Wale Okediran-led leadership for mobilizing the different sets and chapters to rise up to the task of lifting Olivet to greater heights, he urged those present at the event including guests, well-wishers and old students to donate gtenerously to the 80th anniversary fundraising.

” I can assure you that every kobo contributed will be justifiably and accountably utilised towards restoring the glory of OBHS, Oyo”, he added.
