Edochie Hits Hard At Women, Blames Domestic Violence On Feminism

Pete Edochie Takes Decision On Yul's New Family

Feminism which has been embraced by some modern African women is to blame for the domestic violence they suffer in marriage, according to veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie.

According to Edochie in an interview with BBC Igbo, women are at fault in most of the incidents of domestic violence.

He decried a situation where modern women do not know how to do basic things which women ought to know how to do to keep their husbands.

“Feminism isn’t something black people are known for. Once a woman leaves her parents to meet her husband and take his surname, she is to be submissive to him. If she wasn’t married, she can do whatever she wants,” he said.

“Women walk and show off their behinds, it’s so that men would find them. If you see such a woman and express your marriage interest, then she starts walking properly. Our women now plunge into feminism nowadays.

“They can’t even keep their husbands anymore. Is that a good thing? These women are schooled but a lot of wives now can’t even cook — one thing that a woman should be good at so as to be able to keep her husband.

“My mother was not educated but she would cook all sorts of soups, including bitter leaf, Oha, Ogbono, Okro, Egusi, Ukwa, and what have you. My father would always get back home hurriedly to eat what his wife had cooked.

“Today, our wives can’t even cook anymore. Women who can’t cook aren’t supposed to call themselves women. And feminism is what causes women to be beaten up in marriages. You complain to a woman and she retorts.

“It becomes unbearable, so you stretch your arm and deal her a slap. Domestic violence starts. I don’t like seeing women crying because it hurts me deeply. But it is the fault of the woman herself a lot of times.”

According to Edochie, feminism has no place in Nigeria’s culture as he revealed certain things about the western culture that he doesn’t conform with.

“To be honest, the understanding of women is low. I’m not a misogynist but I’ve associated with them a lot, even at work. Feminism has no place in our culture. We don’t worship women as the whites do,” the 74-year-old added.

“In the west, women could join forces and accuse a male colleague of assault. The man resigns. This can’t happen in our culture. As a young woman, if pedestrians don’t admire you, you’d weep for fear of not being beautiful.

“I’m a strong adherent of culture. Kneeling to put a ring on a woman’s hands is not our culture. Any man who does that transfers the headship of his family to that woman. Until my dad died at 96, he never knelt to propose.

“It’s just like kneeling down on entering a church because there’s a higher being to whom you’re paying respect. Men climb trees to tap palm wine. How does it look if women do the same? Today women dictate to me.

“It wasn’t like that in our days. How women talk to men nowadays isn’t how we were raised. My mother was never beaten. My wife and I have been married for 52 years. I never beat her. My five married sons don’t beat their wives.”

By John Michael Ojo

Popular Nollywood Actor, Chiwetala Agu has urged that people should  seek counsel or run to safety whenever they find themselves in an abusive relationship.

The veteran actor maintained that it was better to be divorced than being entangled in a toxic relationship which in some cases has led to the death of one or both partners,

He added that intending couples should do a background check on the would-be partner before tying the knot.

According to Chiwetala Agu, “Marriage is not a do-or-die affair. If you have an abusive partner, run for your life. If you are in a toxic relationship, run for your life. If you are not happy in your marriage, seek help or run for your life.

“Divorce is better than “rest in peace”. “I want to stay because of my children”. That was how a lady was killed. Now, who will take care of the kids? Is it the man that killed you? Or the relatives who love their own families?

“Always remember to run background checks before marrying someone.

“He is handsome; I want to marry him”: see you, see de*th. “My mates are all married, but I’m still single”: see you, see de*th.”

Agu’s comment comes amid the recent divorce saga between Nigerian Afro beat legend, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Face and his wife, Annie Macaulay.

By John Michael Ojo

Barely eight months after their extravagant wedding took place in Lagos State, popular Nigerian disc jockey, Kudirat Gbemisola better known as DJ Kulet, has announced an end of the union between herself and her husband, Ohis Emmanuel.

DJ Kulet who stated this in a lengthy post on her Instagram handle on Monday, accused her ex husband of infidelity. She alleged that her now ex husband molested a minor in their matrimonial home for six months during the course of their marriage.

She said: “I’m publicly disassociating myself from my ex husband, Ohis Emmanuel (aka Benjamin) @hemmarsnoop due to his egregious & reprehensible actions.

“Despite overwhelming evidence including chats, photos, videos, and voice notes of his infidelity, he has refused to change his ways.

“The final straw was the shocking discovery of his prolonged sexual abuse of a 13-year-old minor which occurred under my roof for six months.

“Previously, I had forgiven him after he shifted the blame for his infidelity to external influences, unaware of the extent of his abuse.

“Further investigation, including a video confession on December 28th, 2024, revealed that he had also molested his 20-year-old cousin, resulting in her contracting an infection, as well as her friend.

“His predatory behavior predominantly targets minors, and he continues to engage in infidelity with multiple women. In our short-lived marriage of less than 8 months, I have treated infections three times.

“As a victim myself, I feel compelled to expose individuals like him to protect others. I urge everyone to be vigilant and hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.”
